Located in Midtown Detroit, we are a diverse and talented mix of studio members, instructors, and students who love to get their hands dirty.
Private workshops are also available. Please scroll down to learn more.
Enjoy a night of handbuilding in our studio with friends, family, or colleagues.
These events are great for birthday parties, team-building experiences, anniversaries, or just for fun!
We offer both handbuilding and wheel throwing workshops. Handbuilding workshops typically include methods of pinching, coiling, or slab building items. Mugs and bowls are common examples of projects made, but please let us know if you have something specific in mind! Wheel workshops are capped at 6 participants maximum.
Workshops are scheduled for two hours.
Upon arrival, you will receive a tour of the studio and a brief overview of the project you will be working on. Then it’s time to get to work and create! Most of the time will be spent working on your projects, with some dedicated time for cleanup at the end.
$250 is the base price for a workshop and includes up to 4 participants. If you have 5 or more in your group, each additional participant is an extra $50 each. The cost covers room rental, instructor fee, materials, and kiln firings.
An instructor will reach out to you via email to work out the details of your workshop. This includes confirming the date and time of your workshop, number of participants, what project you would like to make, and any other important information.
Absolutely! Bring your own beverages and snacks to enjoy during your workshop. Please bring any plates/cups/etc you may need, as the studio does not supply these. If you do bring any food or beverages, please be mindful and clean up any spills or mess made at the end of the workshop.
Of course! We have a small bluetooth speaker for you to use, or you are welcome to bring your own.
Workshops are great for anyone! Whether you have never touched clay or are an old pro, we will guide you in your making. Workshops are great because anyone can attend and feel like they have accomplished and learned something by the end. Workshops are great for kids, families, co-workers, or a group of friends just wanting to unwind and enjoy playing with clay.
Please arrive on time for your scheduled workshop
Introductions will be made and you will take a tour of the studio
Let the making begin! Your instructor will talk about the project for the day and explain the basics of clay. They will demonstrate building techniques and offer tips and ideas so everyone can be successful
Your instructor will supply glaze options which everyone can choose from for their individual pieces
A period of time at the end of the workshop will be dedicated to cleanup
Your instructor will manage your pieces and see them through to the finish line. This includes adequate drying time, bisque firing, applying glaze, glaze firing, and packing for final pickup. This process can take up to four weeks.
After your pieces are finished, which can take up to six weeks, your instructor will contact you and supply available times for pickup. Your pieces will be packed in a box and located just inside our front door and labeled with your workshop name.
